David Moyes provided a fitness update on Michail Antonio when speaking to reporters after today’s game, as quoted by Football.London.

The 30-year-old Hammers attacker was forced off early in the second-half after chasing a loose ball.

Antonio has endured plenty of injury problems in the past, most notably with his hamstrings.

The former Nottingham Forest man is absolutely vital to the way that West Ham play. Our new system is reliant on a powerful, mobile and energetic front-man to lead the line.

And the prospect of Antonio missing a prolonged period of time through injury will undoubtedly be a worrying one for the Hammers fans.

Moyes spoke to reporters after the game and responded when asked to elaborate on the extent of the West Ham ace’s injury, as quoted by Football.London:

“We don’t know, we will have a check. He came off against Spurs with something similar. He didn’t miss training so we hope it’s not much. He is so important to us. He couldn’t decide if he was cramping up or not. We will get him scanned and see how he is.”

Antonio was substituted off with a similar issue against Tottenham last weekend.

So let’s just hope that it was once again a precautionary measure from Moyes and nothing more.

The 30-year-old limping off today does highlight a massive problem for us, however. We really should have made a stronger move to sign another centre-forward in January.

Moyes’s attacking options are threadbare. And there could be a big problem on the horizon.

The Scot will surely attempt to address that issue in January. Josh King anyone?
