West Ham boss David Moyes winning the race to sign Malang Sarr this summer could prove just how ambitious the club’s owners are to make genuine progress over the next few years.
FC Inter News claimed last month that the Hammers are keen to sign the 21-year-old centre-back.
And ExWHUemployee backed up those claims on last week’s West Ham Way podcast.
Sarr will be available on a free transfer this summer. And considering the Hammers’ well-documented financial woes, there won’t be many better options out there than the Frenchman for the east London outfit.
Let’s make a major statement this summer…please Sully
The Hammers have the opportunity to make a real statement here.
Angelo Ogbonna has been brilliant this season, but he has recently turned 32. Winston Reid and Fabian Balbuena will likely be sold if West Ham receive decent offers and Issa Diop continues to divide opinion.
Sarr would be a superb addition for David Moyes. If the Scot brings him to the London Stadium, not only would it be a transfer that the club desperately need, but it would also send out a message to the likes of Arsenal and Newcastle that the Hammers mean business this season.
Knowing how David Sullivan and David Gold work, however, it’s a long shot.
Who knows though? Perhaps the West Ham co-owners will surprise everyone this summer by beating Arsenal and Newcastle to Sarr’s signature.
The young Frenchman certainly fits the profile of the type of player Moyes wants to being to the London Stadium.
Former OGC Nice player and club academy director Alain Wathelet told Europa Calcio just how good Sarr is:
“He is not very tall, but he has remarkable physical strength and good technique. In addition to this, he has great intelligence and excellent long passing ability. He is always motivated and never satisfied as he always wants to improve.”
And if he does end up in east London, the Frenchman could be a signing that kickstarts a new era of success for West Ham.
