Leandro Trossard has explained how getting the London Stadium crowd on the West Ham players’ backs was key to Brighton’s success yesterday.

The Hammers were beaten comfortably by Brighton yesterday afternoon and in the end, they were more than deserving of their 2-0 victory.

West Ham were awful, there’s no disguising that. David Moyes would have been seriously annoyed with the manner of the defeat. That’s not to say that he isn’t blameless…of course he is. But he would have been fuming none the less.

The West Ham fans were apoplectic with their side’s display as well, and that was something that Brighton clearly planned to take advantage of…

Leandro Trossard opens up on angry West Ham fans

The Brighton star played a key role in the Seagulls’ win at the London Stadium yesterday afternoon.

And the 28-year-old told reporters how getting the home crowd on the West Ham players’ backs was key to his side’s chances of winning the game, as quoted by BT Sport:

“In the first half we played well and obviously with the penalty it was nice to go in front and I think we controlled the majority of the game. You know if you’re 1-0 up at half-time they are going to come out and try to score a goal but we managed it well I think. We knew the crowd, if we played well, would maybe get angry with them and we played really well. It’s always good when you, as the away team, can get control of the game and it doesn’t help the home team if the fans are not behind you.”

He has hit the nail on the head here. The fact that the Hammers players’ heads dropped having gone a goal behind is not good enough.

The West Ham players were so placid and impotent in the second-half against Brighton as well, whilst still only trailing 1-0 and that just isn’t good enough. The fans had every right to get on their backs.

Trouble ahead?

The West Ham fans’ anger stems from the players underperforming over the past six months or so.

Moyes and every single member of his squad need to be held accountable. It quite simply hasn’t been good enough. All that we demand as fans is that the players are 100 per cent committed, and for Moyes to give them the best chance to succeed.

At the moment, that isn’t happening.

And the Brighton win over West Ham yesterday underlined just how far the players’, and Moyes’s, levels have dropped.
