West Ham goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski has been called up by Poland for the upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers but the club’s official Twitter account worded their message poorly.
Instead of simply announcing that Fabianski was in the Poland squad, West Ham wished him luck. Their message “Good luck, @Lukasz Fabianski!” with the clenched first emoji was interpreted differently by some West Ham fans.
With a picture of the Hammer of the Year accompanying the tweet, it looked like it was a goodbye message. Several fans on Twitter momentarily panicked as they believed the 34-year-old had been sold.
Fabianski has been West Ham’s standout performer this season. After joining from Swansea last summer, he has made the goalkeeper position his own. With consistent performances between the sticks, it was no surprise to see Fabianski named Hammer of the Year.
This is why West Ham’s tweet sparked temporary panic among the fans. It was a clumsily-worded attempt to keep supporters informed about Fabianski’s international call-up.
