Former West Ham striker and current club ambassador Carlton Cole took to Twitter to praise one of the Hammers youngsters.
After Joe Powell signed a new contract (whufc.com), Cole replied with a tweet. He tweeted to say Powell “is a player with great potential, big season ahead of him. Hard work starts now son.”
‘Big season ahead’ for Joe Powell
Powell has agreed to a new one-year contract with his boyhood club. The local lad now has a make-or-break season ahead of him.
The 20-year-old made his first-team debut last season, providing two assists for Grady Diangana after coming off the bench against Macclesfield Town in the cup.

Then, during a loan spell at Northampton Town, he racked up 11 appearances, scoring twice and registering one assist. The left-footed midfielder will now take part in pre-season with West Ham and hope to impress Manuel Pellegrini.
Powell is highly regarded by the Irons and has been a standout performer in the U23 team. But his next challenge will be the step up to senior football.
If Powell can impress in the 2019/20 season, he could earn a long-term contract. But a disappointing campaign could lead to him being released next summer. Hammers cult hero Cole believes in Powell’s ability so his progress will be interesting to follow.
