West Ham United know all about Andy Carroll and his injury issues, but they is now Newcastle United’s concern.

West Ham fans will always have a soft spot for Carroll.

The striker, nicknamed ‘the big man’ in East London, gave everything for the Hammers when fit.

The trouble was that was too rare an occurrence.

Carroll the expensive luxury

When Carroll was handed a six-year deal by West Ham in 2013, it raised eyebrows the football world over.

The club had a disastrous history of signing injury-prone players such as Keiron Dyer, Freddie Ljungberg and Craig Bellamy to name but a few.

And so it proved with the already injury-prone Carroll too. He made just over 100 league appearances in six seasons scoring just 34 goals.

West Ham had been paying him £90,000 per week for the privilege too.

Report claims striker is injured again

He was released on a free in the summer and returned to his boyhood club Newcastle.

But it is the same old story for the former West Ham forward as it emerged this week he is injured again and will miss Newcastle’s game against Wolves this weekend (Chronicle Live).

Many West Ham fans feared the law of sod in that Carroll would suddenly rediscover his fitness and form the minute he left the club.

So the latest news will offer them some solace in that respect.

It is just bound to happen isn’t it?

However there is something rather ominous about the striker’s return date, next week against – you guessed it – WEST HAM at the London Stadium (Chronicle Live).

If ever there was an air of inevitability about a player scoring against his old club, it is this scenario.

What price Carroll to score his first goal since his return to the Magpies against his former employers?

It’s bound to happen isn’t it. West Ham fans won’t begrudge him a goal of course, as long as it is the Hammers who emerge victorious.
