According to a report from the Athletic, Leeds are closing in on a deal to sign alleged West Ham target Robin Koch.
Report: West Ham and Leeds in transfer tussle for Ukrainian
Hammers boss David Moyes want to sign the 24-year-old German this summer, according to a report from the Daily Star.
The Scot desperately needs to bolster his back-line before the start of next season. And Koch would have been the absolute ideal addition.
But it seems as though Whites boss Marcelo Bielsa has taken the lead, with the Athletic reporting that Leeds and Freiburg are close to shaking hands on a £13 million deal for the centre-back.
And missing out on Koch will be a huge blow for West Ham.
Koch a potential star in the making
The 24-year-old has played 32 Bundesliga games for Freiburg this season, scoring one goal in the process (Who Scored).
In those 31 outings, the German has averaged 1.1 tackles, 1.5 interceptions and three clearances per game. He has also won an average of 3.7 aerial duals per game during that period (Who Scored).
Standing at 6ft 3in tall, Koch is big, strong and commanding in the air. He is exactly the type of defender we should be looking to sign this summer.
But it seems as though once again we haven’t been able to compete for his signature. Leeds are apparently on the verge of signing Koch. That’s the beauty of having ambitious owners. And good luck to them.
