Another missed opportunity for West Ham as Leeds reportedly close in on £20m deal

According to a report from the Daily Star, Leeds are expected to sign long-term West Ham target Todd Cantwell before the extended transfer window slams shut on Friday.

The Hammers have been linked with a move for the Canaries ace since January, according to the The Sun on Sunday (January 5th, page 63).

West Ham boss David Moyes will be keen to bolster his midfield ranks before Friday’s deadline.

And the 22-year-old Norwich ace would have been a very useful addition for us.

But unfortunately for West Ham, it seems as though Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa is closing in on bringing Cantwell to Elland Road.

That’s according to the Daily Star.

The Whites, unlike the Hammers, have already spent big throughout the summer transfer window. And Bielsa’s men seem to be well placed to enjoy a successful Premier League campaign this season.

The addition of Cantwell for Leeds would the the icing on what is already a very impressive cake.

And West Ham may well rue the fact that they missed out on the 22-year-old.

Cantwell, who can play anywhere across midfield, played 37 Premier League games for Norwich City last season. In those outings, the 22-year-old racked up six goals and two assists (Who Scored).

In those 37 appearances, he averaged 1.1 shots, 0.9 key passes and 1.3 dribbles per game (Who Scored).

Cantwell is a truly exciting prospect. And he has all of the attributes needed to go on and become a real star.

So missing out on his signature to Leeds will certainly be a blow for West Ham. The Daily Star suggest that Cantwell could cost around £20 million. And that could end up being excellent value for the west Yorkshire outfit.
