Antonio has been vital for the Hammers since Premier League action resumed last month.
The 30-year-old attacker has scored six goals and chalked up one assist in West Ham’s last six games.
Antonio was in scintillating form in the Hammers’ last outing away at Norwich. He scored four goals and was a constant menace throughout the entirety of the match.
The former Nottingham Forest man is a vitally important player for David Moyes. And he is undoubtedly one of the most popular players at the London Stadium.
The 30-year-old will have a key role to play if West Ham are to avoid relegation this season.
And Ogbonna spoke very highly of Antonio, when speaking exclusively to WHUFC.com over the weekend:
“What a day! Four goals!. I’m really happy for him because he’s doing a great job. He’s helping us, running behind the defence, and he really deserves it as a person and as a player. I know him really well, he’s a humble person and I think he really deserves it. When you see humble people and a nice person like that, I think he deserved that.”
Ogbonna is spot on. Not only is Antonio an incredibly dangerous player for the Hammers, but he is clearly a genuinely nice man as well.
He is the kind of player who is great to have around the dressing room. And if we do manage to stay in the Premier League this season, getting the 30-year-old’s future sorted out should be one of David Moyes’s priorities this summer.
