Some West Ham United fans have turned on owners David Sullivan and David Gold after a report claimed Mario Husillos could face the sack.

The Guardian has claimed West Ham’s owners are so alarmed at the club’s recent slump that they have doubts over the future of recruitment chief Husillos.

The Argentine is a close ally of Hammers boss Manuel Pellegrini. The pair worked together at Malaga in the past and had attracted widespread praise from fans and pundits for some of the acquisitions they have made.

Husillos set for West Ham axe?

West Ham are without a win in six and have dropped like a stone from top four contention to 13th in the last two months.

The Hammers also face a daunting run of fixtures. Pellegrini has come under fire of late for his tactics and team selection.

But owners David Sullivan and David Gold have also been heavily criticised.

And it seems Husillos may be the man to pay the price, with his job.

Pellegrini safe but Husillos no longer flavour of the month?

The same report from the Guardian claims Pellegrini is ‘ in no danger of being sacked’. Indeed the board are said to be ‘determined to back their manager’.

The Guardian claims there is ‘unhappiness with (Husillos’s) work in the transfer market last summer and he faces a fight to retain ultimate responsibility for identifying signings in January’.

“After that, the club may look to review Husillos’s position,” the Guardian reports.

Central to the doubts seems to be the £24million signing of Spain international Pablo Fornals.

After winning the Under 21 European Championships in the summer, Fornals has struggled to adapt thus far.

Report names Fornals as catalyst for board disappointment

Many supporters argue he is being played out of position by Pellegrini. They feel Fornals is more suited to the second striker role. And there is evidence to support that claim given his success there for Spain and Villareal previously.

When Husillos was appointed as West Ham’s director of football in June last year he received big billing on the official website.

But it seems one bad window – where the owners handed Husillos and Pellegrini just £25million net to spend – as changed everything, if the Guardian’s report is to be believed.

West Ham fans have been reacting to the claims. And many of them have turned on the owners as a result.

Here are a selection of comments from some West Ham fans on Twitter.
