West Ham will play a top-six team on the opening day of the Premier League – for the sixth successive season. Fans are fuming as West Ham open their 2019/20 Premier League account with a home game against Manchester City.
The champions will travel to East London to start their title defence. West Ham’s tricky opening test will be followed up by relatively local away games against Brighton and Watford.
West Ham’s key fixtures
Opening four games: Manchester City (H), Brighton & Hove Albion (A), Watford (A), Norwich City (H).
Boxing Day: Crystal Palace (A).
New Year’s Day: Bournemouth (H).
Rival games: Tottenham Hotspur (Home – 23 November; Away – 21 March); Sheffield United (Home – 26 October; Away – 11 January).
Final four games: Norwich City (A), Watford (H), Manchester United (A), Aston Villa (H).
West Ham’s sixth successive tough start
For the past six years, West Ham have had one of the Premier League’s ‘big’ clubs to start. Manchester City completes the full pack in the past six seasons.
Tottenham at home in 2014 was followed by away trips to Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool. And only one of those was a victory (Arsenal away in 2015).
Here are several tweets from West Ham fans discussing the opening day fixture against Man City.
We have been given all 6 of the ‘Big 6’ to play on the opening day of the season for the last 6 years.
According to my maths, the chances of that occurring randomly are..
Wait for it…

So many people complaining about boxinjg day, all our other festive fixtures are at home and our one away day is a short trip across London. Only thing I don’t like is Man City on the first day, why us again.
