Hammers star Aaron Cresswell says what happens in the Rush Green canteen makes West Ham United a special place to be.

David Moyes has worked a minor miracle at West Ham over the last two and a half years.

The Scot has elevated West Ham from relegation battlers to a genuine European outfit one tie away from a potential Europa League semi-final against Barcelona.

Moyes has made excellent additions to the West Ham team over the last couple of seasons. But he has also improved a host of players already at the club.

None more so than long-serving left-back Aaron Cresswell.

The Liverpudlian is now a fully fledged adopted cockney and has been completely rejuvenated under Moyes with one of the best assist tallies in the Premier League over the last two seasons.

He also pops up with the odd goal too as his brilliant free-kick in the win over Everton proved.

Moyes has rebuilt West Ham around young, hungry players and a tireless work ethic.

But the manager and players have also referenced the amazing team spirit at the club as a key reason for the upturn in fortunes.

The Hammers dressing room hasn’t always been a happy haven. Cresswell has seen certain players have a toxic influence during his time at West Ham.

But in an interview with The Times, Cresswell says what happens in Rush Green canteen nowadays makes West Ham special.

“This group is grounded,” Cresswell told The Times.

“You walk into the canteen (at Rush Green) and speak to any one of the lads and get a feeling of togetherness straight away. This is the best dressing room we’ve had and it comes from the manager, the tone he sets, the way he wants to work.

“But it also comes from the lads we’ve got. It’s fun but as soon as we cross that white line it’s work time and time to go, and if someone’s not pulling their weight they’ll definitely be told. I’ve seen it here.

“You know, years back you had a few players who deep down didn’t really want to be here but they’ve signed a three-year contract, and have made it difficult in the dressing room at times.”

What Moyes has built is truly special. He has given West Ham fans a team they can truly be proud of again.

Long may it continue.
