When speaking exclusively to Tribal Football, Nicolai Muller opened up on his failed move to West Ham when Slaven Bilic was in charge of the east London outfit.

The 32-year-old German, who was capped twice by his country, is currently plying his trade in Australia with Western Sydney Wanderers.

Muller spent his entire career in Germany before his 2019 switch to Oz, however, having spent time with Greuther Furth, Mainz, Hamburger and Eintracht Frankfurt.

The German winger has racked up 105 goals and 48 assists in 435 career appearances (Transfermarkt).

And he was allegedly on West Ham’s radar a few years back.

Football.London claimed that the Hammers were ready to make a £9 million move for Muller. But a transfer to east London eventually failed to materialise for the 32-year-old.

And now the experienced winger has explained why he rejected the chance to join West Ham three years ago, when speaking exclusively to Tribal Football:

“Yeah I was close. I don’t know if it was 2016 or 2017. I had an offer from West Ham and I talked to them, but yeah, then I wanted to stay in Germany and play there.”

Nobody knows whether Muller would have been a success in the Premier League or not.

At the time, he was clearly intent on staying in Germany, however. So it seems as though West Ham never really stood a chance.
