Former West Ham player Alex Song has been sacked by his current club FC Sion, according to Sky Sports.
The 32-year-old spent two season on loan with the Hammers before leaving for Rubin Kazan in 2016.
And he was a popular player in east London.
Song made 46 appearances for West Ham, chalking up three assists in the process (Transfermarkt).
The Cameroonian midfielder joined Swiss outfit FC Sion in the summer of 2018, and has made 22 appearances for them.
The former Arsenal ace has now been sacked by the Swiss side, however, along with eight other first-team players, after refusing to sign an agreement for a wage cut during the indefinite suspension of the Swiss top flight (Sky Sports).
The midfielder will now become a free agent. But with uncertainty surrounding football all over the globe, it is unclear where he will end up playing next.
It will be interesting to see what the former West Ham ace’s next move his. Whether he appeals or fights FC Sion’s decision remains to be seen.
And the Swiss side might have just set a precedent by sacking nine first-team players, as the coronavirus continues to have worldwide implicaitons.
