So basically I’m cycling from Annan to Ross County (via 39 other Scottish Professional Football League club’s stadiums) to raise money for Africa on the Ball and the Bobby Moore Fund. I’m an avid West Ham fan, living in Scotland and working in professional football here.
The bike ride lasts from the 2nd of July to the 13th of July, finishing on the day of the World Cup Final. Our target for this event is to raise £4000 in total. Here is what the money will be spent on (if you contributed 1p for every mile, which is £7.50):
Education of HIV/AIDS to 34 children in Zambia:
One ball for our work in Kalingalinga
3 weeks sponsorship of education for a member of the community
A bumper for our #BuyABus campaign
Donations from the bike ride will also be made to:
The Bobby Moore Fund – This Fund was set up in memory of legendary footballer Bobby Moore, who sadly died from bowel cancer aged just 51.
The charity raise money for research into bowel cancer and also work to increase public awareness of the disease. As an avid West Ham United fan (who Bobby famously captained in the 1960s and is their most famous player), this is a cause I’m very keen to support and promote. The charity have raised over £20million to date and I feel is a perfect example of using the cultural and social value of football for the advancement of healthcare.
