West Ham star Pablo Fornals named Premier League's finest and makes alternative team of the season

West Ham United fans have not had much to cheer this season but the turnaround of Pablo Fornals has been a rare highlight.

West Ham boss David Moyes came in for criticism over his treatment of Fornals since returning to East London in December.

When Moyes arrived, £24million summer signing Fornals had been West Ham’s best player for two months as he finally started to adapt to the Premier League following a tough start.

Fornals turned Moyes into a fan

But Fornals turned things around with his brilliant attitude and superb workrate, becoming a firm fixture in Moyes’s starting XI before the enforced break.

West Ham fans have taken Fornals to their hearts thanks to his tireless work for the team.

And now the Spaniard has been rewarded with a place in an alternative Premier League team of the season after a new report revealed he boasts the finest running stats in the entire top flight.

Sky Sports has devised a team of the season based on running stats from Opta.

And Fornals covers more ground than any other player in the division per 90 minutes, clocking up over 12km on average.

“This is a side full of high endurance players – the men who have covered more ground than anyone else in their position this season,” Sky Sports state.

“This is about who covers the most per 90 minutes.

“For that, West Ham’s Pablo Fornals leads the way overall, averaging an impressive 12.4km per 90 minutes played – around 400 metres more than any other player.

“If you want a side to give you maximum effort and never stop running for the cause, this is the team.”

West Ham’s answer to Arnold Schwarzenegger, The Running Man

The statistics confirm what West Ham fans already know, Fornals runs his socks off for the side.

He is the East London club’s answer to Arnold Schwarzenegger, The Running Man.

His effort and workrate have seen him move ahead of £40million star Felipe Anderson in the pecking order.

Fornals takes his place in the alternative team of the season alongside a host of lesser known names as well as Liverpool star Roberto Firmino and Manchester City’s Riyad Mahrez.

Fornals would likely have faced stiff competition from fellow Hammer Tomas Soucek had the Czech midfielder been around all season.

The January signing ran EIGHT MILES in the defeat to Manchester City earlier this year, more than any other West Ham player in the last six years (The Sun).
