Jussi Jaaskelainen has certainly divided option over the season but in the past few month he has really proven his worth. At one stage this season I was really critical of Jussi but now, I think he is the man for next season as well.
He has made the most saves out of every goalkeeper in the Premier League this season and will feature in every minute of every league game this season. Which is no small feat for someone of almost 40 years of age. He seems to pull off a few world class saves every game to keep us in the game or to keep it close which is probably why we are where we are in the table. The outsider for Hammer of the Year is becoming a bit of a cult hero at the Hammers with regular chants of “Finland’s number one” bellowing from the away section at most away games. He particularly impressed me in the home game against Tottenham, Newcastle away and Norwich away.
I’m not sure if everyone will agree but I think for value for money JJ is the best the Hammers can do for the next few seasons, but on a season by season basis. Overall this season he has been fantastic and I think he can continue this form through to next season and possibly the next? As a free transfer last summer and probably not on a high wage I think he should retain his place in the Hammers goal next season and should feel very hard done by if we try to replace him! I want to keep him, what do you think?
