West Ham United should be fighting for a European place and will be if they change the manager.
That’s according to talkSPORT pundit Jason Cundy.
The former Tottenham and Chelsea player turned pundit is known for his forthright views.
And speaking over the international break Cundy tore Pellegrini apart in an attack on his tactical acumen and team selection.
It comes as West Ham prepare to face bitter rivals Tottenham on Saturday off the back of a winless run stretching to seven matches.
Pundit pulls no punches but talks a lot of sense
Cundy spoke a lot of sense as he went on an astonishing rant about Pellegrini.
Like a large section of West Ham fans, Cundy questioned Pellegrini’s line-up, formation and use of certain players.
But he also painted a much brighter picture of West Ham’s future, as long as the owners replace Pellegrini.
“You have to say (Pellegrini has to take responsibility) now,” Cundy said on talkSPORT.
“I look at their team and you think ‘That’s a decent team they’ve got’, certainly going forward, they’ve got creativity. They’re not getting the best out of Haller. I don’t know why they don’t play a 433 with what they’ve got in their squad.
‘It’s starting to fall apart’
“So you’ve got the two wide men, Anderson one side, Yarmolenko the other. You’ve got Haller down the middle, you’ve got Rice as a pivot as the holding midfielder and there should be enough around him to have two midfielders that can get up and down and support.
“I don’t understand why they don’t do that, they play a sort of 4411 formation. You wonder whether now – and I’m not blaming Noble – but you wonder whether now there needs to be someone with a bit more dynamism in the middle of the park.
“The shape of the team I don’t quite fully understand. They’ve got two good fullbacks that can get up and down as well. Personally I think his days are numbered.
“I said at the time (he was appointed) I didn’t see Pellegrini as being the manager to move West Ham forward. It was a lazy appointment. I don’t think he could believe his luck that a Premier League club, and a big Premier League club like West Ham, were prepared to give him another opportunity.
‘Change the manager and you get a different result from West Ham’
“Now it’s starting to fall apart at the seams, well where do they go from here West Ham? Well the squad and the team are better than where they are right now. This is a team that should be looking around those European places.
“But the manager is the one, change him and I think you get a different result from West Ham.”
A host of managers have been mentioned as possible replacements for Pellegrini, read full story here.
And according to Football Insider co-owner David Sullivan’s phone has been ‘red hot’ with calls from agents doing just that.
