It’s a well known fact amongst hammers fans and the media as well, that there is a split verdict on Sam Allardyce and whether he will continue his reign past the end of this season. I’m sure everyone at some point had sung his praises or called for his head. Whether the victory against Chelsea, or the disappointing cup defeats to Aldershot and Sheffield Wednesday last season stick in your mind, it is safe to say the ride with Big Sam has not been short of excitement and thrills -even though some claim the style of football is.
Which is the argument why some claim big Sam is not for us giving the type of football we have been blessed with in the past. I for one think his tactics at home this season have been spot on but the away tactics are a different matter entirely. The one that sticks out from this year is the game at Villa Park, 5 at the back at the team second from bottom is just an not for me. He has his critics but my only criticism this season is the negative tactics away, last week at Stoke we set up with the more familiar 4-5-1/4-3-3 and how did that end up? It’s a shame our away form didn’t carry over from last season but one thing is for sure, Sam is making big steps with West Ham and building a stable future.
Stability is the key word. If we keep big Sam for another year, he will become one of our longest serving managers in recent times. Having not had a long standing manager since Redknapp which seems an awful long time ago. Having got through Roeder, Pardew, Curbishley, Zola and Grant it would be great for us to have a long standing manager like the old days. If the board can support Sam I think we’ll be where we belong for a long time with some exciting times ahead. I for one hope he is still here this time next year as I don’t think many managers if any will ever achieve what he’s achieved in the past year and a half at West Ham United. Taking a relegated club back to the Premier League at the first time of asking and then staying there, yet he still has his critics. Question for the doubters, what more can he do? Stable Sam
