Haller’s Hammers doubters

The record £45 million price tag has always seemed to weigh heavy on the Ivory Coast international.

Even after scoring the winner against the Blades, Haller still struggled to convince some Hammers fans with his overall performance.

Some felt he still needs to do more for the team in his all round play.

After the game the striker talked about the goal – and scoring on his Ivory Coast debut during the international break – giving him a much-needed confidence boost.

And his self esteem will be boosted further still when he gets around to watching Match of the Day.

Dedicated MOTD segment will boost West Ham striker

The West Ham forward got the full MOTD treatment on Sunday night.

There was a dedicated segment on Haller highlighting a host of moments where he created chances and openings through clever play.

And pundit Micah Richards was full of praise for the Hammers striker, even if he did admit Michael Antonio would come straight back into the side when fit.

“He’s had a tough time but he was excellent today,” Richards said on MOTD.

‘I feel for him a little bit’

“He didn’t stop, he got into good positions. Look at his strength holding off and playing the right ball.

“Strikers talk about movement. But sometimes when you stay still and you’re having a good day, things just fall to you. He’s got to put the ball in the back of the net and he did that.

“I feel for him a little bit because he’s not scored enough goals, Antonio’s been in great form and (is) a different type of player.

“But he’s given the manager another option. I think Antonio still plays when he’s fit but today he (Haller) was very good.”
