West Ham United boss Manuel Pellegrini has been savaged by Sky Sports pundit Phil Thompson.
Pellegrini is a man under pressure after defeat to Wolves last time out made it just one win in 10 games for the Hammers.
Victory over Chelsea at the weekend looked to be a turning point.
But West Ham were back to their usual performance levels when they were comfortably beaten 2-0 by Nuno Espirito Santo’s side in their 28th game of the season so far.
‘We dominated most of the game’
Pellegrini claimed West Ham ‘dominated most of the game’ at Molinuex and ‘played well’ (Football London).
That’s despite Wolves dominating in all the key match statistics, except possession which was shared equally at 50% each.
The comments irked Hammers fans.
And a perplexed Liverpool legend Thompson savaged the Chilean, suggesting he was watching a different game.
Perplexed Thompson savages Pellegrini
“Wolves won the game comfortably, oh my goodness,” Thompson said on Sky Sports.
“I can’t believe he’s said that. They tried to pass the ball, poorly at times, (but) Wolves were always the better team. This was a West Ham side that we know went to Chelsea and were aggressive in their nature, closing down, all pulling together and you get something out of the game.
“(The performance at Wolves) was nothing like that, they just literally went through the (motions), Wolves were by far the better team.”
‘West Ham players don’t want it enough’
Thompson was not done there either. He went on to criticise West Ham’s lack of strength in depth and questioned whether most of their players are up for the fight away from home.
“(Against the top six) they have a go most of these West Ham players,” Thompson added.
“But when it is an easier team, especially away from home – and I am levelling this at these – I don’t think they want it enough for enough games for them to stay up there and challenge that big six.”
