There was a new low for West Ham as a series of shocking statistics from the Brighton humbling tell a sorry tale and leave David Moyes nowhere to hide.

You can roll a you know what in glitter or try to put lipstick on a pig as the old sayings go.

But there is no sugar-coating or dressing up what West Ham fans witnessed in the 4-0 thumping away at Brighton.

Everyone knew the Hammers have an abysmal record against the Seagulls since they were promoted to the Premier League six years ago.

A morale-boosting 4-0 win over Forest last week had West Ham fans feeling the team may have turned a corner.

Somehow, though, Moyes’ hapless side plumbed new depths in a dismal Premier League campaign.

In fact it was a new low for West Ham as a series of shocking statistics from the Brighton humbling tell a sorry tale and leave Moyes nowhere to hide.

Not that you necessarily need statistics to tell you this was as woeful a West Ham performance as you will witness.

During the game it was revealed that West Ham are the only side in the entire Premier League not to have scored a goal in the opening 15 minutes of a single game this season.

In the first half West Ham registered just 24 per cent possession – quoted on the Premier League match coverage as the lowest on record in the top flight this season. The second half wasn’t much better either, ending with just 32 per cent to Brighton’s 68.

How about passing? In the first half Brighton registered over 350 passes to West Ham’s – wait for it – 70. Again commentators being fed information by statisticians claimed it was a new low.

The Hammers improved slightly in the second half in that respect but only because it couldn’t get much worse, ending with just 334 passes to Brighton’s 700.

Perhaps most damning of all the stats, though, is West Ham’s Premier League record under Moyes over the last 15 months.

Defeat at Brighton means the Hammers have now won only 15 of their last 52 Premier League matches in that time, just six of those coming this season.

Judging by the reaction of West Ham’s hardcore travelling fans – who once again packed out the away end – pressure is about to ramp up on Moyes yet again.

And with those kind of statistics, the Scot – for all the good he has done for the club since returning in 2020 – has nowhere to hide.
