Lukasz Fabianski the only shining light on a glum afternoon at Anfield?

West Ham were comfortably beaten 4-0 by Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday, and there were little positives to take away from the game for the fans.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side were swept aside by a Reds side who will surely be challenging for the Premier League title come the business end of the season.

As expected, they dominated possession and made things extremely difficult for the visitors with their usual high press tactics, and West Ham never really looked likely.

Perhaps the one positive for Pellegrini though was that summer signing Lukasz Fabianski looked fairly solid between the sticks, despite the fact he conceded four goals, none of which were his fault.

The Poland international, who joined the club from Swansea City for just £7 million, pulled off a number of good saves, including a full stretch dive to prevent a Trent Alexander-Arnold free-kick from going into the top corner.

The 33-year-old also thwarted Mo Salah from point blank range in the first half, and was basically the reason the scoreline didn’t become an embarrassment.

Fabianski was argubaly the Irons’ best player, and could definitely pay back his bargain fee in the form of a few crucial points this season, as he did so often for Swansea before their eventual relegation last term.

At 33 he’s no spring chicken, but he didn’t really show any signs of his age at Anfield, and has the potential to be one of Pellegrini’s best value signings.
