Tony Cascarino has suggested that he’d be really concerned right now, if he was a West Ham United fan.
West Ham have experienced an awful start to the 2024/25 Premier League campaign under the guidance of Julen Lopetegui.
The Hammers head coach is under real pressure right now, and a poor result and/or performance against Everton on Saturday could be the final straw.
Lopetegui has failed to gel all of his new signings together so far. Right now, we look like a team of individuals.
There has been no clear footballing identity on display, whilst the team has lacked any patterns of play.
Something needs to change if we are to salvage this season, and fast.
And that sentiment applies to one player specifically as well…
Tony Cascarino says one West Ham player has been miles off it
There are many things to be concerned about at the London Stadium right now.
Lopetegui seems completely lost, whilst the players are clearly confused by the instructions that have been given to them by the gaffer.

However, there have been some players who simply haven’t performed all season long – one man in particular.
When writing his regular column for The Times, Cascarino criticised Lucas Paqueta for his poor form this season.
Cascarino said, “If I was a West Ham fan though I would be nervous. Lucas Paqueta looks way off it, Mohammed Kudus and Jarrod Bowen can’t do it all. The pressure is on Julen Lopetegui. Of course they had bad times under Moyes, but this regularly? They got taken apart by Forest. Their form is a huge concern. Southampton, Wolves and Palace would be my picks right now but that could all change.“
He’s spot on here – Paqueta has been absolutely awful this season, and he needs to be dropped as a matter of urgency.
The 27-year-old has just two goals and zero assists in 12 games for the Hammers this term.
Not only has he been ineffectual for us inside the final third, but he has also been a liability defensively.
The amount of times he loses the ball in dangerous areas, and puts our defence under immediate pressure is simply unacceptable.
I personally want him out of the side now. His head is clearly not in it, and that’s no surprise really, given his off-field problems.
The sooner Lopetegui takes him out of the firing line the better as far as I’m concerned.
Tony Cascarino summed West Ham up perfectly in his column. Paqueta has been a big problem for us this season, but if Cascarino and the fans can see it, then why can’t Lopetegui?
