Felipe Anderson hits the nail on the head following Liverpool defeat

West Ham winger Felipe Anderson has spoken out following the club’s opening Premier League defeat to Liverpool on Sunday – offering some much needed perspective.

The Brazilian was handed his first start in the competition by Manuel Pellegrini following his huge £42.5 million summer move from Lazio (according to BBC Sport), but it wasn’t the best of days at the office.

The Hammers were comfortably dispatched 4-0 by the Reds, with goals coming from Mo Salah, Sadio Mane (2) and Daniel Sturridge.

Fans of rival clubs flocked to social media to throw in their two cents worth, and some Irons supporters did express some concern, but Anderson is realistic about the situation.

He said, via the club’s official website: “We knew that the [Liverpool] match was going to be very hard, as their attack is really fast and they score a lot of goals. We prepared for the match well, but this is a very new team and we still have a way to go to get to our best form.

“We have very good expectations for the season, this team wants to play beautiful football and, with a bit more time, all the new signings are going to adapt. The club made a big investment and now what we need to do is to work to make things go well.”

Anderson is right. Liverpool are a team that will likely be pushing Manchester City for the title this season, and are not the kind of opponents you should really make a true assessment after.

The Reds have a frightening team, and the Brazilian is right to point to the transition phase. West Ham will improve, and Bournemouth this weekend are the exact kind of opposition the club should be seeking maximum points against.

The game, to be played at the London Stadium, is a great opportunity for fans to get a real glimpse of this new West Ham team to see where they’re at, and Anderson will be keen to build on his own decent showing at Anfield.
