Andy Carroll first came to the public eye during the 2009/10 season when he was scoring for fun for freshly relegated club Newcastle. Within the course of the season he played 35 games, scoring 19 goals, finishing as the club’s top scorer, with our own Kevin Nolan scoring 17 in that season. This goal tally helped Newcastle win the league, getting them promoted to the Premier League.
The next season proved to be a big one for Andy who played 19 games for Newcastle scoring 11 goals for them before moving to Liverpool F.C on January 31st 2011 for a whopping £35 million pounds, making him the most expensive English player of all time. For the rest of the season he played 7 games for Liverpool in all competitions, scoring 2 goals. In the same season making his senior England debut, as a result of his impressive Newcastle preformances.
However in the next season Andy had a dip in form causing him to not start as many games as he would have liked. That season for Liverpool he started 21 games and came on as sub in a further 14 games in the Premier League scoring just 4 goals. Although during the same season he played for Liverpool during their cup run in the FA cup and the Carling Cup scoring 5 goals.
So this leaves me to answer the question I asked at the beginning of this article, can Andy Carroll really impact results. In my opinion I think that yes he can. This is because I think that during his time at Liverpool he was not deployed in the right way. Carroll will fluorish under Big Sam because Sam likes to play the long ball, no matter whether we like it or not, and Carroll is the perfect target man. He is tall standing at 6ft 3in and strong. His main strength being that he dominates in the air. During the Fulham match he showed this where he also brought other players into play helping to create the goals. I think it was fair to say that during that match he dominated the game and also helped set up the goals. So if Andy was anything like he was in that match than, yes I do think that he can influence West Ham results. I also think he has the ability to score a fair amount of goals for us too. Together with him and Nolan I feel that they could score at least 20-25 goals between them.
