West Ham midfielder Joe Powell has been sent out on loan to Northampton Town, the club’s official website has confirmed.

League Two side Northampton have added Powell to their squad for the remainder of the season. And West Ham fans will hope he can continue his development there.

Joe Powell at West Ham

Powell has been in excellent form for West Ham’s under-23 side this season, managing seven goals and six assists in 12 Premier League 2 matches.

The local boy was handed his first-team debut earlier this season, picking up two assists against Macclesfield Town in the EFL Cup.

This will be Powell’s first loan stint away from The London Stadium as he hopes to kick on and stake a claim for next season.

Where does he fit in at Northampton?

Keith Curle’s Northampton side play a 3-5-2 formation and Powell can slot into several positions in this system.

The 20-year-old is predominantly an attacking midfielder but he has played at full-back before so Curle might see him as a wing-back.

Alternatively, the left-footed midfield playmaker could featured in midfielder for the Cobblers.

Ex-West Ham players wish Powell luck

Three former Hammers have taken to Twitter to wish Powell luck with his loan spell away from East London.

Ex-first-team regulars Paul Konchesky (left-back) and Carlton Cole (striker) have congratulated him on the move.

And former academy striker Paul McCallum, who never played a senior game and is now at Eastleigh, messaged him about his biceps.

And here are what West Ham fans are saying about Powell’s loan exit.
