West Ham look likely to miss out on Jamal Lewis as the defender closes in on a new Norwich City deal.

According to talkSPORT presenter Geoff Peters, Lewis is preparing to sign a four-year deal at Norwich.

This would probably put an end to West Ham’s interest. Plenty of other clubs were also in the hunt for the defender.

Lewis is considered to be one of the best young defenders outside of the Premier League. In a recent feature on Moore Than Just a Club, we highlighted him as a potential long-term left-back solution.

The 3-cap Northern Ireland international is highly rated by Norwich and by his country. Despite his young age, he has already played over 30 games for the Canaries.

Lewis is a major part of Daniel Farke’s plans this season with seven appearances under his belt already.

But despite interest from the Premier League, he is set to stay at Norwich. Geoff Peters reports that a “bumper” four-year deal is on the table for the left-back.

West Ham’s interest

West Ham were among the sides taking an interest in Lewis. Three other Premier League teams were set to rival the Irons for the 20-year-old’s signature.

Burnley were also interested while Bournemouth and Watford held “big interest” in Lewis.

The promising youngster was also on the radar of Celtic, who might have moved for him if Kieran Tierney left.

At West Ham, Lewis would have competed with Arthur Masuaku and Aaron Cresswell.

With Cresswell out of form and Masuaku arguably more suited to a left-wing role, Lewis could have been a shrewd addition.
