West Ham are one of the clubs interested in signing highly rated Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana, according to reports emerging from the Netherlands.
Dutch media outlet De Telegraaf reports that West Ham, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal are all interested in Onana.
But Barcelona are hoping to bring their former academy goalkeeper back to deputise for Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
Who is Andre Onana?
Onana is rated as one of the best young goalkeepers currently playing in Europe, having established himself as a regular at Ajax.
The 22-year-old has already played well over 100 games for the Dutch heavyweights despite his young age.
And the 8-cap Cameroon international is also starring for his country, making him an exciting prospect as club and international level for the future.
This report by De Telegraaf adds that it would cost around €30m – €40m to land Onana with several clubs in the hunt for his services.
West Ham’s goalkeeper situation
West Ham currently have their best goalkeeper in years with Lukasz Fabianski starring between the sticks.
Fabianski arrived in the summer after leaving relegated Swansea City and he has become a hit among Hammers fans for his consistency.
But the Poland international will be turning 34 before the end of the season and Onana could be seen as his long-term replacement.
Either way, it would be a tricky challenge and a statement of intent if the Irons beat Barcelona, Arsenal and Spurs to the signing of Onana.
