However, he rejected a move to the Hammers after our £40 million bid and instead moved to Lens for just £30 million. I bet Montpellier weren’t happy with him for making that decision one little bit!

The East London outfit were linked with a move to sign the 20-year-old pretty much all summer long, and at one point it was claimed that he was keen on a move to the London Stadium.

It’s now back to the drawing board for Hammers boss David Moyes though, regarding his search for a new striker…

West Ham made mammoth Elye Wahi offer

La Voix du Nord reckon that the Hammers lodged a £40 million bid for the 20-year-old, but he joined Lens in a £30 million deal instead.

Had he joined us, he would have become our third most expensive signing of all-time, behind only Lucas Paqueta and Sebastien Haller.

Losing out in the race for Wahi’s signature was a real shame – he would have been absolutely perfect for us.

The Frenchman possesses blistering pace, has unbelievable movement and is a very good finisher indeed.

At just 20, Elye Wahi could well go on to be a huge star in the game, it’s just such a shame that West Ham didn’t sign him.

The key for Moyes now will be to get another striker in before the summer transfer window slams shut in 10 day’s time.

There are still plenty of very exciting options out there available for us.
