According to reports in the French media, West Ham are one of three Premier League clubs interested in Pape Gueye. Le Havre midfielder Gueye is wanted by West Ham, Watford and Leicester City, according to L’Equipe.
Le Havre are desperate to keep their youngster, who arrived from Parisian side JA Drancy in 2016. But they reportedly face a battle to keep him.
The French second-tier side want Gueye to sign a new contract. But with one year remaining on his current deal, his future is up in the air.
And three English top-flight clubs, including West Ham, are interested in poaching Gueye from Le Havre during the summer window.
Who is Pape Gueye?
Gueye has played 10 times for Le Havre this season in Ligue 2 – France’s second division – and has enjoyed a run in the team in recent weeks.
The 20-year-old stands at 6ft 2in tall and operates in defensive midfield. This is an area that West Ham could strengthen with Declan Rice needing a partner in the holding midfield role.
With Gueye in midfield, Le Havre have enjoyed a reasonable season. Two games remain this season and Le Havre sit seventh in Ligue 2.
But Gueye’s long-term future could lie away from Le Havre. West Ham will be hoping to sign the France U19 midfielder for a relatively cheap fee.
