Newcastle United appear to have entered the race for reported West Ham target Roberto Inglese. According to The Chronicle, Newcastle have scouted Inglese as they identify a number of targets for the summer.
Inglese was linked with West Ham by the Italian media recently. Italian journalist Ciro Venerato claimed West Ham’s interest during an interview with Rai TV via Area Napoli.
Venerato believes that West Ham and Atalanta could be in a summer tussle for Inglese, who is currently on loan at Parma from Napoli.
But Newcastle could put a spanner in the works if they follow up their scouting mission with some genuine interest. This could lead to a three-way battle for Inglese’s services.
Who is Roberto Inglese?
Inglese is a striker who has spent the whole of his career in Italy, playing for a host of clubs including Chievo and Carpi.
With eight goals in 23 appearances this season, he has helped Parma to mid-table after joining the Serie A club on loan from Napoli in the summer. His future at Napoli looks uncertain and another move next summer could be on the cards.
The 27-year-old has a modest goal scoring record in the Italian top flight, reaching respective totals of 13 and 12 goals in the last two seasons.
Other than that, Inglese has failed to hit double figures in Serie A but he will be hoping to reach 10 goals for the third consecutive season by scoring at least two more this term.
West Ham have been linked with numerous strikers and Inglese is just one of the names that has popped up. Whether the Hammers or Newcastle are genuinely interested in the Italian striker will become more evident towards the summer transfer window.
