West Ham have identified two English goalkeepers as potential replacements for Adrian, according to EXWHUEmployee – a reliable club insider.
EXWHUEmployee told listeners on The West Ham Way podcast on Phoenix FM (Wednesday 8th May) that Marcus Bettinelli and Tom Heaton could replace Adrian.
The Spaniard is expected to leave this summer and West Ham need a replacement. Fulham goalkeeper Bettinelli and Burnley’s Heaton are two options for the Hammers.
Lukasz Fabianski is West Ham’s undisputed number one choice. After winning the Hammer of the Year, he will continue with his starting role. But he needs a back-up option.
With Adrian leaving, West Ham have been scouring the market. And Bettinelli and Heaton could be targeted this summer.
Who is Marcus Bettinelli?
Fulham stopper Bettinelli has had a frustrating season. With just seven appearances to his name, the 26-year-old was ousted by Sergio Rico at Craven Cottage.
Last season, Bettinelli played a crucial role in helping Fulham to promotion. But after a season on the bench, he could swap West London for East London.
West Ham have pursued the ex-England U21 goalkeeper in the past (The Daily Mail). And the Irons could revisit that deal this summer.
Who is Tom Heaton?
Heaton has wrestled back his starting spot at Burnley this season despite pressure from Nick Pope and Joe Hart.
The 3-cap England international subsequently won a recall to the Three Lions squad, too. With over 350 career appearances, Heaton would be a valuable experienced option.
But whether the 33-year-old would leave Burnley to be a back-up for Fabianski remains to be seen.
