West Ham hope to sign their top midfield target by this weekend. According to trusted insider EXWHUEmployee (writing on thewesthamway.co.uk), Mario Husillos has decided on his top target and it is probably Pablo Fornals.
EXWHUEmployee adds that West Ham hope to wrap this up within 72 hours of publication (Tuesday 11th June, 22:00). Therefore, Fornals could be a Hammer by the weekend.
Husillos worked with Fornals at Malaga and knows him well. And even if this deal falls through, there are two other attacking midfielders on West Ham’s radar that will be pursued.
Details of the Pablo Fornals transfer
Fornals to West Ham is now being widely reported in the media. According to The Guardian, the twice-capped Spain midfielder will cost around £24m.
West Ham turned their attention to Fornals after chasing Stanislav Lobotka. The Irons felt Fornals represented better value for money and this deal is moving quickly.
This transfer is being reported in the Spanish media too. According to AS and other outlets, Fornals’ move from Villarreal to West Ham could be announced imminently.
Where does Pablo Fornals fit in at West Ham?
Unlike other recent targets, such as Isaac Hayden, Jonjo Shelvey and Lobotka, Fornals is more of an attack-minded central midfielder.
In that sense, the 23-year-old is more similar to Manuel Lanzini. And with the Argentine midfielder’s future in doubt, he could even be a like-for-like replacement.
Fornals’ highlight reel is already exciting West Ham fans. The Spanish midfielder will be the marquee midfield signing in East London. Both Manuel Pellegrini and Husillos want Fornals so this would be a coup if they pull it off.
