Ajax technical director Sven Mislintat has provided an update on Edson Alvarez amidst strong links with West Ham United.

West Ham are interested in signing Edson Alvarez from Ajax in the summer transfer window according to The Guardian’s Jacob Steinberg.

However, a move to bring the £38 million-rated midfielder to the London Stadium is allegedly being held up by the fees being demanded by agents involved in the deal.

Is that really the case though? It seems not.

Sven Mislintat has been speaking to Voetbal International about the 25-year-old’s future with Ajax…

Big concern for West Ham as director of football makes Edson Alvarez claim

It seems as though the Hammers are actually not even in any kind of concrete talks to sign the Mexico international this summer.

Mislintat explained how after a move to Dortmund failed to materialise for Alvarez, there has been no movement on a potential transfer away from Ajax since:

“After Borussia Dortmund pulled out (of a deal) for Alvarez, no club has become so concrete for him. Of course, there are talks and calls are made. But it is not as serious as Dortmund was at the moment.”

So there you have it. Apparently West Ham haven’t even made a concrete move to sign Edson Alvarez yet.

Maybe that’s because David Moyes has hit heart set on Scott McTominay, James Ward-Prowse and Joao Palhinha.

Described by The Daily Mail as an ‘exceptional’ holding midfielder who breaks up play, Alvarez would be a superb replacement for Rice at the London Stadium.

And it really think the Hammers should be going all out to sign the Mexican. As things stand though, it seems like West Ham are really taking their time. With the start of the Premier League season just two weeks ago, that’s a big concern.
