Hammers boss David Moyes seems to be closing in on the signing of Edson Alvarez, but the Scot needs to bring in more quality if we are to compete on all fronts this season and beyond.
And it seems as though Ward-Prowse could well be the man for the job at the London Stadium…
After Dharmesh Sheth claim, West Ham could have a very exciting midfield
Sheth was speaking on the Sky Sports Transfer Show last night (Tuesday August 8th, 5:03pm).
And he shared what’s going on behind the scenes at the moment regarding the Hammers’ pursuit of the Southampton star:
“Because of what Manchester United want for McTominay and I’m told do not rule out West Ham going back in for James Ward-Prowse.”
The thought of having Ward-Prowse lined up alongside Lucas Paqueta and Edson Alvarez in the middle of the park should be a really exciting one for the Hammers fans.
Southampton want £40 million for the 11-capped England international this summer (The Times).

So I would imagine that the two clubs will end up meeting in the middle somewhere – around £35 million.
I think Ward-Prowse would be a strong addition for the Hammers – for his ability from set-pieces alone! However, he is a leader as as well and possesses very good technical ability.
It’s just a shame that West Ham will probably have to pay over the odds for Ward-Prowse in the end.
That said, his leadership skills will be absolutely vital for the Hammers this season, after having lost two different captains in back-to-back campaigns. And with that in mind, perhaps it will be worth paying that little bit more for Ward-Prowse this summer.
