A prediction made by former West Ham United manager David Moyes is edging closer to coming true.

Moyes might not have always been everyone’s cup of tea here in east London but there is little doubt he was a fine manager at West Ham United

What should West Ham do with Max Kilman this summer — keep, loan or sell? 🤔

Does Kilman deserve a chance in the Championship? 💭

While there’s little point in going back over the debate as to whether the club should have parted ways with him when they did, no one can doubt the success he brought to the club.

It was Moyes who moulded Declan Rice into the player he is today and the prediction the Scotsman made about the midfielder is one step closer to actually happening.

Moyes said Rice could be England captain one day

Speaking back in 2023, Moyes predicted that Rice would become the England captain at some point in his career.

He said: “No doubt he is going to be an England captain in the future.”

DISCUSS: Keeping Adama Traore is a bad idea 😡

He's done nothing!

Such were his leadership skills even as a relatively young player, Moyes saw it coming.

Rice was West Ham captain when they won the Conference League in 2023, having been handed the armband on a full-time basis in 2022 following Mark Noble’s retirement.

Rice now named England’s vice-captain ahead of World Cup 2026

Rice isn’t England captain yet, but everything is pointing toward that direction.

The midfielder has been named England’s vice-captain for their bid for glory at the 2026 World Cup, behind Harry Kane.

Kane, as good as he has been this season, does not have all that many years ahead of him one would expect.

The striker is now 32 and while that is hardly old, nothing is to be taken for granted on the international stage at that age.

As such, it’s certainly not hard to imagine Rice taking the role of England captain in the not-too-distant future.
