The EFL Cup encounter with Macclesfield provided some of West Ham’s fringe players with an opportunity to get a game.

Backup attacking talent, such as Lucas Perez, Robert Snodgrass and Michail Antonio got a chance; grasping the nettle and finding the net.

At the other end, popular figure Adrian was handed a start and captained the side. He kept a clean sheet, but it looks unlikely he will dislodge Lukasz Fabianski right now.

The Pole has been in outstanding form since his arrival from Swansea this summer and has established himself as clear first-choice.

However, a video emerged from the match shows that Adrian’s leadership skills. With youngster Conor Coventry set to make his debut from the substitutes bench, he was in need of a last pep talk.

After Declan Rice offered some sharp words of advice, Adrian took over. He took the time to offer some encouragement and reassurance to Coventry, who must have been incredibly nervous.

Even if Adrian is not playing, his experience and leadership can still be vital for Manuel Pellegrini moving forward.
