Predicted: David Moyes makes decision on whether to stick or twist with West Ham changes for Silkeborg amid plastic pitch fears

David Moyes makes a decision on whether to stick or twist with West Ham changes for Silkeborg amid his plastic pitch fears.

West Ham face the Danish side in their second Europa Conference League group game on Thursday night.

West Ham top Group B after beating FCSB 3-1 at the London Stadium in the first group stage match of the new campaign last week.

Meanwhile Silkeborg lost 1-0 to Belgian side Anderlecht. That was their third defeat in a row amid a run of just one win in seven until West Ham’s hosts picked up a welcome victory at the weekend.

West Ham did not have a match at the weekend after their game against Newcastle – along with the rest of the English football calendar – was postponed following the Queen’s death.

The Premier League has confirmed West Ham’s trip to Everton on Sunday will go ahead.

So we expect Moyes to want to protect some of his key stars for the important clash at Goodison Park.

Speaking ahead of the game against Silkebog, Moyes has admitted their artificial pitch may mean certain players can’t be risked.

Plastic pitches are notorious for causing injuries particularly in joints.

Moyes has already said that may mean the likes of Craig Dawson and Aaron Cresswell can’t play.

But we believe it will also come into the manager’s thinking as he weighs up whether to involve the likes of Angelo Ogbonna and Kurt Zouma too.

Both have a history of knee injuries with Ogbonna still feeling his way back from his ACL.

Aggravating an injury will also be a consideration for Moyes when it comes to Tomas Soucek, who the Scot revealed would have missed the Newcastle game had it gone ahead.

That decision would be whether to make three changes and protect the likes of Ogbonna, replace ineffective Manuel Lanzini and give Jarrod Bowen a start after his excellent substitute performance last time out.

Moyes will want to protect Zouma for Everton even if it is a potential risk playing Ogbonna on this surface.

So we believe the manager will decide to stick and start with the same side which lined up against FCSB with the thinking very much to use all of his subs.

The manager will be keen to get minutes into more players than usual given the circumstances of the last week while protecting those who might be succeptible to injury on this surface – Michail Antonio being another of those.

Predicted West Ham starting XI to face Silkeborg:

Areola, Coufal, Kehrer, Ogbonna, Emerson, Rice, Downes, Lanzini, Cornet, Benrahma, Scamacca.
