West Ham striker Marko Arnautovic is a doubt for this Sunday’s game against Chelsea.
Manuel Pellegrini confirmed this news in his pre-match press conference, as reported by the club’ s official website.
Pellegrini also gave updates on other injured players.
Arnautovic had to come off shortly after scoring against Everton on Sunday. The Austrian has a problem with his knee.
And Pellegrini confirmed that it might rule him out of the Chelsea clash. The Chilean said: “Marko finished with a problem behind his knee against Everton.
“He’s having some treatment and we will see if he can be fit for Sunday.”
In last season’s meeting at The London Stadium, Arnie scored the only goal in a 1-0 win. The 29-year-old also has three goals in five games this season.
So his absence will be sorely felt if he misses Sunday’s game.
If Arnautovic does miss the game, then West Ham could have looked to another striker with history against Chelsea.
Hernandez netted the equaliser in last season’s 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge. But the Mexican striker missed the Everton game with a virus and he still has not shaken that off.
He is therefore a doubt for the Chelsea match, as well. This leaves Pellegrini with few options up front.
Pellegrini confirmed that Andy Carroll, Winston Reid and Manuel Lanzini are still out with long-term injuries.
Jack Wilshere is also sidelined after undergoing surgery in the week but everyone else is fit.
