Gillingham fans believe there could be a “shock” on the cards after drawing West Ham in the FA Cup.
The Gills have beaten Sunderland and Doncaster Rovers – two top team in their division – to progress to the Third Round. Their reward is a home tie against a Premier League club – and one with a history of buckling against lower league teams.
Gillingham aim to upset West Ham
In the past two seasons, West Ham have been humiliated twice. The Hammers have conceded four against AFC Wimbledon (4-2 defeat in the 2018/19 FA Cup) and Oxford United (4-0 loss in this season’s EFL Cup).
Manuel Pellegrini opts to rotate his squad for cup matches and the fringe players have struggled. With more passion, the Football League sides have run riot against a weakened and disinterested West Ham side.
Gillingham will host the game at Priestfield and there is a chance it could be moved for TV. West Ham fans make the trip down to Kent for the game, where they will be housed in a stand with no roof.
Here are some excited Gills fans after the FA Cup Third Round draw gave them a home clash with West Ham.
