West Ham have been joined by Tottenham in the race to sign Liverpool play-maker Adam Lallana, according to the Mirror.

The Hammers and Spurs allegedly want to sign the 32-year-old Reds ace this summer. But West Ham fans shouldn’t be too disappointed if they miss out on the 34-capped England international.

The former Southampton man was a great player in his day. But he has now reached the twilight years of his career.

He has been susceptible to injuries recently as well. And he is on massive wages – £110,000 per week (Spotrac).

The last thing West Ham need is another ageing, injury-prone star rocking up at the London Stadium on big wages.

Stats

Lallana has made 15 Premier League appearances for the Reds this season, racking up one goal and one assist. In 196 career Premier League appearances, the 31-year-old has scored 30 goals and registered 28 assists (premierleague.com).

In 15 league outings this season, the Liverpool man has averaged 0.2 shots, 0.3 key passes and 0.2 dribbles per game. Those numbers are far from impressive, but in fairness to him, in those 15 games, he has only played a total of 374 minutes (Who Scored).

Jurgen Klopp will be powerless to prevent the former Saints ace leaving Anfield, with his contract due to expire at the end of this season.

Despite availability on a free, Hammers should steer clear

David Moyes suggested recently that he wants to bring young and hungry players to the London Stadium over the next few years.

Liverpool ace Lallana clearly doesn’t fit into that category.

West Ham fans love to see young talents coming up through the ranks. And on the flip-side, they hate seeing ageing players who are well past their best picking up one final pay-day at the club.

So they really shouldn’t be too bothered if Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho manages to win the race to sign the 32-year-old this summer.
