West Ham left-back Arthur Masuaku was thrown into action during the first half of West Ham’s recent win over Newcastle United.
After Aaron Cresswell was forced off with an injury, Masuaku entered the field of play after 34 minutes.
Given some of his performances this season, West Ham fans were justifiably worried to see Masuaku playing for most of the game at left-back.
But he answered some of his critics with an impressive display to help the Hammers to a rare clean sheet and all three points.
Arthur Masuaku: performance in numbers
The 25-year-old played for just under an hour after replacing Cresswell and was assured in defence.
Masuaku made three tackles, two clearances and an interception (stats via Who Scored) to ensure Newcastle did not get back into the game.
And the DR Congo international was also threatening in attack, completing two dribbles and providing two key passes.
What does the future hold for Arthur Masuaku?
Whether Masuaku has saved his West Ham career remains to be seen and he may be tested again before the end of the season.
But prior to the Newcastle match, Masuaku was out of favour under Manuel Pellegrini, having been at fault with a few errors this season.
There has been recent talk that West Ham are open to summer offers for the former Olympiacos left-back (The Mirror via HITC Sport).
But he might have earned himself another chance to impress Pellegrini after proving a few people wrong with his Newcastle display.
