Marcelo Carracedo – the agent of West Ham target Gonzalo Montiel has confirmed that east London outfit want to sign his client, when speaking exclusively to Radio Futbol 910, and relayed by El Intransigente. He also suggested that the Argentine right-back could be available for just $8 million (£6.5 million) this summer.

The Hammers have allegedly been after the Argentinian ace for around five or six months now. It is no surprise either. David Moyes will undoubtedly be looking to sign an established right-back at the end of the season. Especially after the rumours surrounding Jeremy Ngakia’s future emerged yesterday.

West Ham attempted to sign the 23-year-old Argentine in January, according to TyC, who claim that the east London outfit made a £400,000 loan offer for the right-back, with an option to buy for £8.3 million in the summer.

Infobae claims that Montiel has a €20 million (£17.6 million) release clause inserted into his current contract with River Plate.

Potential bargain summer signing?

But apparently he could be picked up for much less than that now because of the global health crisis.

Montiel’s agent has claimed that the Hammers do in fact want to sign his client. And he suggested that £6.5 million could be enough to get the job done, as quoted by El Intransigente:

“Before all this happened, there was a lot of interest. I thought that the health crisis was going to slow down a little, but calls kept coming. There are many teams that are interested. In a normal situation Montiel was 90% gone, but now I don’t know. They (West Ham) wanted to make a high loan with a £10m option. River said no because they were fighting for things. It was talked about when West Ham arrived. Now there is no soccer in Argentina, and if an offer comes, you have to listen to it. Today, eight million is a good offer.”

The Argentina international has racked up three assists in 20 league appearances for River this season (Transfermarkt).

In 19 league outings, the 23-year-old has won 1.5 aerial duals on average per game. He has also averaged two tackles, 1.2 interceptions and 1.3 clearances in those matches.

Montiel is clearly a top class performer. And David Moyes would surely love to bring him to the London Stadium.

And if West Ham can sign the right-back for just £6.5 million, it really would be a great addition for the football club.
