Prime West Ham United summer transfer target Maxi Gomez has been making the headlines again.
The Hammers are expected to reignite their interest in the Celta Vigo striker this summer.
According to reports from The Mirror (28 March, page 56), Manuel Pellegrini is hoping to lure him with a lucrative £80k-per-week deal.
That is after West Ham’s January interest came to nothing with Celta wanting to keep their main striker to help them fight relegation.
There has been concern over Gomez’s ability to handle pressure situations.
Concerns over Gomez’s ability to handle pressure
West Ham’s bid – and talk of interest from Barcelona – coincided with a lean spell which saw the Uruguayan score just once in 13 games to keep his side in the bottom three in La Liga. He was also petulantly sent off in that time.
But Gomez seems to be back on track.
West Ham fans following his situation would have seen the 22-year-old scored his first ever goal for Uruguay during the international break.
Gomez scored his maiden international goal in the 88th minute to round off a 4-o win over Thailand in the China Cup final.
He took to Twitter afterwards to reveal his happiness at the landmark moment, read full story here.
Maxi back on track
And he took that form back to La Liga at the weekend where he scored and put in a man of the match performance during a 3-2 win over relegation rivals Villareal.
That made it 10 goals from 27 games for Celta this season. Not too shabby for a 22-year-old playing in a poor side.
And Gomez is saying all the right things too.
He took to Twitter again to comment on the win accompanied by pictures of him and his teammates celebrating.
“Come on team,” Gomez said.
“We have been struggling and this is the way to thank you all for the support.”

Better for West Ham if Celta survive?
Gomez also found time to congratulate teammate and compatriot Lucas Olaza after the 24-year-old made his debut for Celta.
The result leaves 18th placed Celta one point adrift of Villareal in safety with nine games to go.
Recent reports claimed West Ham would only have to pay £22.5million for Gomez if Celta are relegated.
But that scenario could actually damage West Ham’s chances of landing their key target, read full story here.
