West Ham United star Michail Antonio has sent a heartfelt message to the club’s fans on Twitter.

West Ham were tipped to challenge for the European spots this season, particularly after a bright start.

But Manuel Pellegrini’s side nosedived from third in the Premier League table to the brink of the relegation zone after a run of just one win in 11 matches.

Much of that was down to the loss of energetic powerhouse Antonio to a three-month injury lay-off.

Antonio importance laid bare

Recent statistics read a lot better for West Ham. Two wins from the last four games, one of which was away at fierce London rivals Chelsea, has eased the pressure on Pellegrini and the team going into the festive period.

And Antonio has been crucial to their improved form with man of the match displays in both those victories.

Modern day footballers are often accused of being aloof and out of touch with fans.

That is certainly not true of Antonio, a grafter who has fought hard to make it to the top level after starting life in non-league football.

Fans’ favourite sends heartfelt message to supporters

The fans’ favourite showed just how much he appreciates the club’s loyal fans when he sent them a heartfelt message on Twitter this week.

Want to say a massive thank you for the support I’ve had since I’ve been back, means so much to me,” Antonio said ahead of the festive fixtures which could help shape their season.

“Big few weeks ahead, let’s go!!! #COYI.”

West Ham fans appreciated the message with Antonio receiving lots of love in response.

‘Please don’t get injured ever again’

The common theme in the thread was supporters begging Antonio to try and avoid any more injuries.

That just serves to highlight how important he is to this West Ham team.

Antonio really makes West Ham tick. And he is crucial to getting the best out of record £45million signing Sebastien Haller too.
