West Ham United star Issa Diop has been linked with a mega money move to Manchester United.

Sky Sports claimed last month that Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants the West Ham defender this summer.

That sparked claim and counter claim about West Ham’s valuation and players they might want in return.

West Ham’s £75million Diop deterrent

The Telegraph reported that West Ham want £75million for the young Frenchman.

That report claimed West Ham were aware of the potential interest from Manchester United. And by setting a high fee the Hammers hoped to deter the Red Devils.

West Ham are yet to receive an official bid for Diop, who arrived for what now looks a bargain £22million from Toulouse last summer.

One so young could be forgiven if the speculation proved distracting.

Diop fully focused on Hammers

But West Ham fans will be heartened by new comments from Diop which show just where his head is at.

Speaking to West Ham’s official website, Diop made it clear he is fully focused on playing for the Hammers next season.

And the modest defender even insisted he still has plenty to improve on, despite the Telegraph claiming he is on the verge of a senior France call-up.

“This (West Ham’s training camp in Switzerland) is the perfect place to start pre-season,” Diop told whufc.com.

“Training has been good, we’ve had good sessions and on Thursday we started the real pre-season with three sessions a day.

Issa down to earth guy

“Of course, three sessions a day is hard, but pre-season is always hard. We know that and we are ready for it.

“I know a little bit more about the Premier League and the guys now, so I’m more confident, but I also know I always need to improve to know the league.

“I learned a little bit, but I think I need to learn more and I’m ready for this.”

Diop is one of the best pieces of transfer business by West Ham for many years.

Described as a ‘monster’ by former Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho, the towering centre back made light work of his debut season in the Premier League.
