West Ham United owners David Sullivan and David Gold have told Manuel Pellegrini what is expected next season.

The way West Ham finished the season supporters did not want it to end.

Three wins on the bounce, including that victory at Tottenham’s new ground, and 10 points from a possible 12.

A final day 4-1 thumping of Watford lifted West Ham into 10th spot.

A comfortable but unspectacular season

It was a satisfactory finish all things considered.

The first two seasons at the London Stadium were tempestuous affairs flirting with the relegation battle.

Under Pellegrini, though, the football was infinitely better. And so too were results, particularly at home where West Ham had the best record outside the top six.

After spending £100million on 10 new players expectations were loftier than midtable mediocrity.

But a Premier League-worst injury list did little to help Pellegrini in his debut campaign.

Owners make expectations clear

Further improvement is expected next term, though.

That’s according to Sullivan and Gold who have left Pellegrini no doubt over their expectations in a statement on the club’s official website.

“Manuel Pellegrini and his players have produced some magical moments, marvellous performances and memorable victories – most recently in a certain part of north London! – and, above all, have created a spirit and identity that we believe all Hammers fans have genuine faith in,” Sullivan and Gold said in a joint statement on whufc.com.

Improve league position while promoting youth

“There is great anticipation and excitement about what lies in store for next season, and everyone is looking forward to the challenge of further improving our Premier League position.

“It has also been another hugely successful year for our Academy, too. With the likes of Grady Diangana, Joe Powell, Conor Coventry and Ben Johnson all graduating to first team honours following in the exceptionally talented footsteps of our latest full England international, Declan Rice.”
