Manuel Lanzini is a vitally important player for West Ham.

The Hammers missed his creativity and ingenuity desperately when he was out injured last for the majority of last season.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side looked like a totally different team when Lanzini returned to action in February. And he will be pivotal to their hopes of achieving success over the next few years.

So it will come as no surprise that West Ham fans are concerned that his contract is due to expire in the summer of 2020.

The Hammers must renew the Argentine’s contract and secure his future.

Well-renowned West Ham insider ExWHUemployee claims that Lanzini wants to see how the club progresses this season, however, before committing to a new deal:

 

That will be a real worry for West Ham.

The thought of losing Lanzini for free next summer really is a frightening prospect.

The Argentine joined West Ham on a permanent deal in the summer of 2016, for a fee believed to be worth £9.4 million, according to the Mirror.

He is arguably one of the Hammers’ most prized assets, and signing him up to a new deal this summer could very well be the most important piece of business that Pellegrini undertakes before the start of the new campaign.
