Rio Ferdinand shared his opinion that this season will be rendered null and void, when speaking on his Instagram channel last night, and West Ham fans will be very happy with what their former player said.
The Hammers are currently in a real relegation dog fight. David Moyes’s men are sitting in 16th spot in the Premier League table. They are level on points with 18th placed Bournemouth and 17th placed Watford.
West Ham are also only two points clear of 19th placed Aston Villa, having played a game more than Dean Smith’s side.
The Hammers haven’t played since March 7th because of the recent coronavirus outbreak.
And the West Ham players will be desperate to get back into action as soon as it’s safe to do so.
But will that even be possible?
Rio Ferdinand doesn’t believe so.
The former Hammers centre-back suggested that he would not be surprised to see the current season cancelled, when speaking on his Instagram channel last night:
“I actually don’t think anyone will get relegated this season, because I think the season will be voided. Everyone who was in the Premier League last season I think will remain.”
West Ham have some really tough fixtures remaining this season. So if the season was declared null and void, there surely wouldn’t be too many arguments emanating from the London Stadium.
In fact, Karren Brady made the controversial suggestion that this season’s Premier League campaign should be cancelled when writing her column for the Sun 10 days ago.
Who knows what will happen, however. But as Covid-19 continues to spread, football is very much a secondary concern at the moment.
